Online Task 4

Question:
1. Think of at least 3 benefits of using speeches by famous figures, in the classroom.

a) These type of speech texts are very useful in the classroom because they are free of grammatical errors and well prepared.
b)These type of speech texts always reflex higher level of critical thinking skills. The students will be exposed to the use of critical thinking skill.

c) Students will be exposed to persuasive speech which can be used in real life. The students will be motivated and inspired through these type of speech texts.

2. Go to www.youtube.com and find the audio-visual on the speech. In not less than 50 words, state would the audio-visual be of any use in helping understand the speech better? State your reasons.
Using audio-visual is an interesting way to make the students to understand the speech better. It can be used for all levels. Students will be motivated to see the audio-visual of the speech rather than reading the speech. Students will be more focused using the audio-visual and will help the students to understand the speech better.

3. Who is Martin Luther King?
He is a minister and social activist who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death. His leadership was fundamental to that movement's success in ending the legal segregation of African Americans in the South and other parts of the United States. He is promoting nonviolent tactics such as the massive March on Washington (1963) to achieve civil rights.

4. Based on the questions below, analyse the features of the given written speech:

a. What is the purpose of the speech?

The purpose of the speech is to motivate people to be friendly and generous to the needy. He also encourages the people to share what they have and at least sacrifice a little to the needy. He also emphasize about human rights between northern white people and southern white people sharing church and shops.

b. What is the tone of the speech?
Martin Luther King's speciality in delivering his speech is the tone of the speech. He uses various tones to highlight the messages of his speech. His modulation of voice is the strenght of his speech. He is capable to modify the tone based on the importance of the points he is going to deliver. He also uses the repetition tone in his speech.  

c. What interesting major feature(s) can you see from the speech? (i.e Repetition of phrases, emphasis on certain things said etc)
The interesting major features in the speech is the repetition of the words as below:
“be satisfied" - repeated five times
 “negro” - repeated fifteen times 
 “freedom” - repeated nineteen times 
“I have a dream” - repeated eight times

d. Any interesting facts that you can gather based on the background of the speech?
He is very energetic in delivering his speech with a voice from the bottom of the heart to the people and for the African people who lives in America. It shows the importance of human rights to the people of Africa.The "I Have a Dream" speech was only 17-minutes long.  “I Have a Dream” has been ranked the top speech of the 20th century and hasn’t budged from that spot since it was delivered on August 28, 1963. Its influence and impact also led to Dr. King becoming the youngest recipient and the second Black winner of the Nobel Peace Prize one year later. The speech was watched by between 200,000–300,000 people and millions more viewed it live from home. 

5. Suggest a while-reading activity that can be derived from this particular speech.
Students are to underline the repeated phrases in the text and write the meanings.
